I was reading an article today and it stated that more and more people are searching online for partners in these more financially difficult times. That makes a lot of sense. It also stated that people tend to want to have a companion in times of stress. That also makes a lot of sense too. We are human after all and as far back as man can remember, people needed and had companions. How does this play out in the dating software world? Well, in my opinion, it’s a huge opportunity for people to start more niche market dating sites.

Niche market dating sites are dating sites that go after specific needs and specific genres. I don’t recommend going after a market that is generalized like Match.com. Not unless you have a few million dollars to spend on advertising and the way the market is now, if you did have millions of dollars, I’d sure hang on to it!

How is the online dating industry growing you ask? Perfectmatch.com has reported a 47 percent jump in the number of members in the three months to November compared to the previous quarter, supporting theories that the online dating industry could be a business that does very well during an economic slowdown. This is also the case for Match.com who said it had experienced its largest membership growth over the last seven years in November.

So what does this mean to you? Well, if more and more people are searching online for a date then why not provide them with a specific niche market that can isolate more of a matching interest and thereby putting more profit into your online dating business.
