There seems to be a myth that having millions of members in your dating site is a good thing. While we do recommend that you have a large member base, we do not recommend that you strive to put millions and millions of members in your niche market dating site. While our dating software can surely handle millions of members, it’s not a good idea to have that many members. I know it’s hard to understand so I’ll try to shed some light on it.
I remember reading a report a while back and it asked a panel what they thought was an ideal number of choices was in a dating site for looking for a mate. The number was from 1 to 1500 and most of them said that they would be happy with choosing a mate from around 50 profiles. It also stated that people aren’t really looking at all the profile information when they have tons of profiles to go through and therefore might be missing out on a potential mate.
So as you can see members can become overwhelmed with their choices so in my opinion it’s a good rule of thumb to keep your niche market dating site limited with the number of members you have in it or at the very least keep your member base current by setting the pruning feature in the dating software to 3 months. If you don’t have someone coming back to your dating site within 3 months then chances are they won’t be coming back. By removing their profile, you keep your site current and the choices realistic and fresh for your members.
Wazzum’s dating software has a database pruning feature that allows you to remove members profiles from the dating site that haven’t logged into it for a given time. The default is 90 days and you can change that if you wish.
